The Ap Ma Project is the work of Jesse and Karie Pryor, missionaries to the people of Papua New Guinea. They’re involved in translation work, construction projects to give the people a church/literacy center and classroom space; not to mention on the fly medical help and who knows what else! It’s crazy over there.
Karie is my wife’s sister, so I’ve been helping them out as I can. Their original site was actually the first HTML/CSS site I ever made. I moved it to ExpressionEngine a while back, but never found the time to get it set up properly. With our insane schedule the updates they needed me to do kept falling further and further behind so it was my goal to put the power in their hands, so to speak. And with a complete backend restructure, I decided it was time re-design it. Let’s just say I’ve learned a lot since the first one was designed, and it needed it.
Now they can update the gallery, journal and newsletter section whenever they want. One particularly cool thing that I’ve done for them is allow them to update the journal by email. They are so far out that they don’t have internet access unless they go into Madang. They can only send email chunks 50kb at a time, so logging into the Control Panel of ExpressionEngine was not an option. Thankfully, there’s a moblog module that allows for easy updates by just sending an email. It’s nice when technology solves real problems!
